First half
Vale make a great start and on 5 minutes Archie Harland-Goddard number 3 bursts through midfield, hits a great shot from 20 yards that hits the left post hard, pings across the line, hits the right post then runs safe. So unlucky for Archie. A superb effort.

Goal: 0-1 on 7 minutes.
Seanan Mckillop clips in a low right sided free kick from 20 yards,
Nathan Lewis gets the slightest touch on the way through to Marcus Dowdeswell who side foots in high from 9 yards for what
would eventually be the winner.

12 minutes. A Vale shot hits the SCR side netting.

Vale 'keeper Reece Turner make two good saves from good SCR chances

44 mins. Jordan Holmes crosses low from the right to Byron Douglas-Letts who puts wide from close range.

2nd Half
SCR come at us in the 2nd half but Vale soak up the attacks fairly easily.
Nathan Lewis back in the side after a short absence helped the left side of the defence.
Pat Gibson came in to right back and did a great job.
Marcus Dowdeswell impressed again at centre back after a good game at Chertsey
and Archie Harland-Goddard is improving and gaining in confidence game by game at a visible rate.

Frustration eventually gets the better of SCR and fouls led to two dissmissals

79 minutes: SCR down to 10 men as striker Matt Ferdinando 9 is sent off for a 2nd yellow
83 minutes: SCR down to 9 men as captain Aaron Bogle 2 is sent off for a 2nd yellow

Jack Williamson has a good close range chance late in the 2nd half when 1 on 1 with
the SCR keeper but doesn't score.

To sum up.
An important win for us. Stopped a run of 3 consecutive league defeats.
Admittedly two of those defeats were away to Chertsey, who will most probably win the league,
and Balham who are top of the table.
I don't think SCR were at their best today, we also had a few bank holiday heads on out there
but we played well enough to get our 1st away win of the season, deserved the 3 points
and could've won by more if we had taken our chances.

More to come from the Vale me thinks. Squad looking good. Team spirit high.

Notes:
A slightly eerie bank holiday atmosphere at the large Gander Green Lane stadium.
Bank holiday morning kick off games can be a bit weird, on too early.
