Two main matches were played, an Abbey B side taking on Wallingford before an A match.

Remi Norville, at scrum half, inspired the Abbey B side to a hard fought victory in the first match. Abbey controlled the opening quarter, threatening the Wallingford line. Once the ball was moved down the backs, Josh Smith took off down the left wing only to be tackled as the try line beckoned. The continued Abbey pressure began to count and Remi Norville collected the ball from the base of the scrum, evaded two defenders, and crossed for Abbey’s first score of the day.

Despite a front row of George Marshall, Jonah Cunningham and Isaac Wasylciw, Wallingford were seeing more set piece ball in the first half.

The score was kept at one try to nil until half time, Eben Howard and Barnaby Adam putting in tackle after tackle to thwart the Wallingford attack.

Soon after the break Remi Norville crossed for his and Abbey’s second score of the game. Wallingford looked rattled and Abbey took advantage of their new found confidence with Jonah Cunningham darting up the left wing only to be bundled into touch inches from the line.

The game remained an intense affair and the visitors' only try of the game came with five minutes remaining. Abbey continued to defend through a tense last few minutes and ran out two tries to one winners.

In a story of two halves the Abbey A side took a half time lead of three tries to nil. Initially Charlie Wilkinson scored with a forceful run following hard work from the forwards. By now the hosts were in top gear as Mo Tahir went over in the left corner before galloping away to score in the same spot just a few minutes later, with what is becoming a trademark score.

Matches with Wallingford are always fierce encounters in the scrum, rucks and mauls and this was no exception. Once or twice there were transgressions with both sides giving away penalties through indiscipline.

The second half saw Wallingford come back at Abbey. Wallingford scored early in the second half although Abbey continued to weather a storm of the visitor’s possession and territory. Wallingford were soon on the score sheet again with a well worked try in the right hand corner.

It was then nip and tuck between the two old rivals up to the final whistle with Edward Wisener hoofing the ball out to touch as the final play was signaled by referee Steve Harknett and time was up, Abbey winning by three tries to two and continuing the unbeaten A team run.

The morning was rounded off by mixing A and B teams with wholesale changes at half time.
