Training or matches from Sunday 4 September through to April from 10.00 to 12.00.
Reading Abbey RFC is the leading family friendly rugby club in Reading and the surrounding area.
The club is affiliated to the English RFU and our local Premiership team, London Irish. In 2011/12 from U7s upwards, Abbey will be one of the pilot clubs taking part in a new London Irish Mini League with 4 league fixtures against other local clubs. Players will receive London Irish branded gifts, as well as tickets for London Irish matches and access to their professional mini coaches. Abbey Minis enter a number of Rugby Festivals through the season, culminating with the Abbey Shield, our own tournament held in March. where over 1500 people attend to play, watch and enjoy Mini rugby played in fantastic surroundings.
All Mini rugby takes place on a Sunday morning. Some days will be training only and others will include training and matches against local teams. After training children and parents are welcome to socialise in the club house where hot food is served throughout the morning and the bar opens after training.
New players are always welcome and your child can try for 4 weeks before you are asked to pay membership fees. The first training session is on Sunday September 4th 2011 starting at 10am prompt so please arrive in plenty of time.
Our Head Coach, Mark Keogh, and his team have already highlighted some key areas we need to focus on in 2011/12 and have re-committed ourselves to using rugby to develop boys not only into competent sportsmen, but also leaders, decision makers and valued members of Reading Abbey RFC.
If you bring your children along, please make sure that they have suitable equipment. My suggestions are: football or rugby boots – please avoid blade type boots and go for studs (metal studs are best); warm cloths and a water proof top if possible but avoid zips or hoods as these can be dangers. Gum shields ARE mandatory at this age group.
I look forward to meeting you
