Camping At The Games in 2012
Reading is delighted to announce that during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Holme Park will be used as a temporary campsite for Olympic ticket holders and volunteers, who will be heading over to Eton Dorney lake for the rowing and canoe sprint events next summer.

The club has joined forces with Camping At The Games, a project being run by Campingninja, the UK’s largest online campsite provider that was founded in 2009 by Rhian Evans, former Reading Ladies Captain. As part of the project Campingninja will be collaborating with 8-10 community sports clubs in close proximity to all the major Olympic venues to set up temporary campsites during the games.
Reading RFC is perfectly located for any Olympic and Paralympic ticket holders or volunteers heading to the 2012 Rowing and Canoe Sprint events that will be taking place at Eton Dorney Lake in Berkshire.
Reading RFC is the oldest rugby club in Berkshire and if there is one thing this club boasts by the bucket load, it’s atmosphere! This is the perfect spot for families and friends to enjoy the sporting spirit, with large screen TV’s showing all the latest Olympic action, a lively bar and plenty of green space for outdoor games! It is also located less than 0.5 miles from Sonning on Thames, meaning you could even do some rowing of your own in the picturesque village or cycle along the canal to Reading or Caversham, where there is an excellent selection of shops, bars and restaurants (also easily accessible by bus).
Craig Hunter, Reading RFC Chairman comments; this is a great opportunity for raising funds for us to put straight back into developing rugby within our community. It will also be a great way to raise our profile in the community and in the wider world, which will hopefully encourage more membership and potentially sponsorship too. Lastly, it will just be great fun to get the whole club involved in such a huge sporting event, Holme Park has a fantastic atmosphere and we are keen to share it with our visitors!
Reading RFC is extremely excited to be the only campsite dedicated to the 2012 Olympic rowing events and cannot wait to open it’s gates to Olympic visitors.
