Welcome back to Holme Park..

I hope everyone enjoyed their Summer holidays and welcome back to Holme Park for what promises to be a great season here at Reading Youth Rugby!

I'd particularly like to welcome our new players and of course their parents to the club - I'm sure you will find us a friendly and approachable bunch so if you have any questions then please do let us know!

Since we officially ended last season at Youth Presentation Day a great deal of work has gone on behind the scenes. Mark Everett and his hard working team of willing volunteers have transformed the pitches into an oasis of lush green grass and upgraded facilities within the Clubhouse/Changing Rooms and I think it's fair to say that Holme Park hasn't looked quite as smart for many years!

One of our sponsors (Toppesfield) very kindly organised the resurfacing of the entrance to Holme Park and some additional parking areas behind the main stand which will help us with parking for festivals (more in this later!)

Our volunteer coaches and team managers have also had a busy Summer and have been attending RFU training courses which we hosted at Holme Park. We were visited by the RFU Player Development Manager Gary Townsend who gave us all food for thought about how kids learn and develop their social and interpersonal skills through the game.

Gary was very supportive of our aims and objectives as a Club and we're very proud of the standards and behaviours of our coaching volunteers! We'll continue to invest and support them throughout the course of the season.

So what's to look forward to this season? Having spent the last couple of weeks getting around the various teams it seems to me that we have an exceptional group of young players from U6 to U16 levels. Each team has a full and varied schedule of matches/joint training sessions to enjoy so please look out for updates from your team managers as I'm sure you don't want to miss out!

We are also holding two festivals of rugby at Home Park this season. The Junior Festival (U13-U16) is on the 2nd October and the Minis Festival on the 16th October.

As always we're always on the lookout for new volunteers in a range of roles around the youth section so if you'd like to get involved in the running of your club then please do get in touch at commercial@reading rfc.co.uk

Yours in rugby

Matt Newman
Youth Chairman
