Reading Rugby Football Club is proud to be one of Berkshires oldest Rugby clubs. We have always worked hard on ensuring that all our players and their family enjoy themselves. We are a very family friendly place and everyone can get involved, mothers, fathers even grandparents.
We cater for boys and girls aged between 5 and 12 learning and competing in mini rugby. From the start, at U6 (Year 1), where the children learn their skills engaged through a series of structured games; promoting confidence, determination and self belief while developing agility, coordination and team work. Progressing, to competitive tag rugby at U7, contact at U9 and finishing the Mini’s (at Under 12) fully prepared for their transition into the full 15 a-side format of the game at U13.
We are an all inclusive and exciting Mini Rugby community, sponsored by The Oracle.
We extend a warm welcome to all players, both boys and girls of all abilities and we offer a 4 week free trail. We recognise that children develop at very different speeds and as such we structure all age groups to ensure our players are engaged in ability appropriate training formats and fixtures, in recognition of this development journey.
Home training is at the club’s Holme Park ground in Sonning every Sunday of the season from 10am. The U9’s finish at roughly 11:30am. We also visit other local clubs, details can be found on the Fixtures & Results page.
We take the welfare and safety of our players very seriously; ensuring that all on-field helpers are DBS checked and suitably qualified medical assistance is on duty each week. We are the only club in Reading with the RFUs “Whole Club Seal of Approval”, which provides a quality benchmark for the standard of coaching, medical cover and insurance for all our players
We encourage all players to play the game in the right spirit, perform at the best of their abilities, to be gracious in victory, magnanimous in defeat and respectful to the officials, the opposition and their team mates. The development of such values, we believe, will be of benefit to our youngsters well beyond the sports field.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2018-19 Reading mini’s season either as a family returning or a new member embarking on his or her first rugby experience.
If you have any questions please contact either Ian Jenner (Head Coach), Richard Ash (Team Manager) or Natalie Ash (Team Manager), and they will be happy to get back to you.
For under 9s child must be 8 as of 31 August 2018, ie Year 4 at school.
The first 4 weeks are free as a taster period.
