Real United deservedly got a draw at Southwell City on saturday but with better finishing it could have been three points and not one.
There was nothing between the sides in the early stages but Southwells Mawer did have a shot fly past the post after he was on the end of a cross from the left wing. Kieron Whalin missed a good opportunity for Real,he had time and space but he rushed into a shot and his effort went well wide. Real were improving the longer the game was being played, Germaine Hunt was impressive as was Mark Clifford in centre midfield.
On 22 minutes all the hard work paid off, Germaine Hunt intercepted a loose pass near the Southwell area and shot past the helpless keeper. 0-1
Southwell fought back well with a Sam Betts seeing an effort fly over the bar, and a minute before the half-time whistle Purves scored for the home side after receiving a flicked header from Sam Betts. HT 1-1
From the re start Southwell took the initiative and went in search of a second goal. Blackhurst broke through from midfield and a cracking shot hit the bar from 20 yards out. Southwells attacks increased when Real Uniteds Marcus Buck was dismissed for his second bookable offence on 55 minutes. Real could still muster a threat and nearly took the lead when Alfa Gray broke free and raced towards the Southwell goal, but it a last ditch tackle from a defender saved Southwell.
Real were coping well with the Southwell attacks and again broke free through Alfa Gray close to the final whistle but the keeper was out bravely to smother the ball at the strikers feet. FT 1-1
