Redemption or Relapse?

Another rip snorting day at Humber. Perfect weather conditions, freshly cut grass and the boys were ready to take on the premiers of 2017. This was a big one and the Rebels had had a huge couple of weeks on the training track, so for all involved, we were firing on all cylinders. There was huge anticipation as to what sort of performance we would bring, were our Aussies going to fire, can the Canadian boys step up, would wiz kick another “3” ? goals? After having a quick chat with Bodz prior to the first bounce, he was really hoping to see the lads fire out of the blocks early, and he wasn’t disappointed.

The first Quarter started out as expected, tempers were flying and the midfielders in the engine room started to get to work. Barrel O’Farrell, Swanny and Buddy are really starting to gel and will be pivotal as we make our run for the finals. Fabs started the quarter off well, as he directs the troops in traditional fashion. Bodies crashing in, this was truly a finals like atmosphere as we round the first quarter off, neck and neck.

Similar to q1, the boys crashed in not giving an inch. The lads in the backline wearing their opponents like a glove and rebounding in true Rebels style. Phily, similar to fabs in the forward line, making sure everything was in order at the stoppages and stoksey really putting his heart on the line, that head band making sure each and every sweat bead was caught, just before it took out his eye sight. Jesus, I tell you what, this was one sensational contest!

The 3rd quarter rolled around quickly, Sammy really putting in some hard work with his repeat efforts, giving the lads a real lift, what a game he was playing. Some inspiring footy, Bods barking orders on the side line, rallying the troops and rally they did! With a big push, Fabs had a couple to his name, and should have had a couple more. Could the boys finish off the quarter and push away from the Eagles, lots of unanswered thoughts and emotions were rolling through the crowd. Still neck and neck the engine room really needed to give us a lift- and we did, with a 20 point lead at 3q time!

With the scores just about level, the boys went into the fourth with some real hope, we can bloody do this! Unfortunately to everyone’s dismay, we fell away, and let the Eagles peg back a 20 point lead and pull away by a further 20 points. The rebels army just couldn’t get things back to order, and although the game was over, there were some incredibly bold efforts, and if we can put together those 3qrts of footy consistently, I think we will give it a real shake come finals! Well done by all.

Go Rebs!
