Redbridge started the game well and had a chance to score within 4 minutes but Robinson couldn’t quite shoot the ball inside Danny Gay’s left-hand post from a tight angle after latching onto a ball from midfield.

Down at the other end Sudbury had their first attempt on the game from a free-kick but the powerful James Baker could only head a tough half-chance wide after being picked out all-alone inside the box.

With Michael Toner anD Lewis Dark grafting in midfield, an early goal for the Motormen always looked likely and a great ball by Dark picked out Perry Burns out wide who ran into the area seeing a low shot hit the post.

Thankfully for Redbridge, Robinson was on hand to blast the rebound into the net from 3 yards before Gay or his defender Jamie Smith could get the ball clear. It was the forward’s 5th goal of what has been an injury-hit season.

Sudbury to their credit battled back into the game but only looked threatening from long-balls into the area. Redbridge led by Billy Sendall in absence of Glen Golby were looking strong and were dealing with every delivery comfortably.

A second before half-time looked likely for Redbridge but Burns couldn’t quite pick out Robinson and his strike partner Shane Wyllie from a cross from the right before Vinnie Durrant saw a shot blocked inside the area.

There was a few scares though before half-time when Russel Pond went down outside the area but thankfully the referee Stuart Pawley booked the midfielder before Nathan Clarke beat Joe Wright to the ball from a free-kick with his header tickling wide of goal.

After the break, Redbridge came out the blocks well and were denied a second 10 minutes into the half when good work by Burns created a chance for Haywood who saw a goal-bound effort blocked by his own team-mate in Robinson.

Sudbury were fortunate not to go down to 10 men but Pond wasn’t given a second-booking for a clear foul on Toner before the bright Robbie Martin got away with a second yellow for a foul on Wyllie out wide.

Whether Pawley decided not to send the left-back who got in in the process of fouling Wyllie or not nobody can ever know, but Sudbury were living dangerously and five minutes from time should have been out of the game completely.

A great move by Redbridge ended with Joe Gardner being fouled by Dave Wareham. There were no arguments from Sudbury - as it was a clear penalty - who were frustratingly let of the hook as Robinson’s chipped spot-kick struck the bar.

It was a puzzling moment for the forward and sadly there was a sense of inevitability that Sudbury would get a late equaliser. Strangely the hosts were awarded a free-kick for a foul against Sendall on Baker with Redbridge’s captain livid as he was clearly the one who was fouled defending a long ball.

The set-piece from 35 yards out was whipped in towards goal falling to Clarke via a deflection with the defender’s shot deflecting in past Wright who stood no chance of saving the powerful strike which sailed into his right-hand post.

With five minutes of injury-time signalled, Redbridge tried to get a winner but despite having a few set-pieces of their own to create a winner it didn’t arrive as they had to leave the fantastic-setting that’s the MEL Group Stadium with a share of the spoils.
