Winning League Run Ends in 7 Goal Thriller
Redbridge 8 match winning run is ended as we went down 4-3 to Burnham Ramblers.
Both sides came into this match in recent good form although at different ends of the table however it was the Motormen who took the early initiative opening the scoring after just 18 seconds.
From the kick off Burnham conceded possession and a through ball found the run of Reside Coxi Sebastfao who smashed his effort against the bar only for Brian Moses to be on hand to tuck away the rebound.
Lindisipho Mytanda then saw his effort held by Joshua Strizovic before a delicate passing move between Coxi Sebastfao and Moses saw the tall striker about to strike before a great defensive tackle from Ryan Stillwell denied him.
In between those efforts the home side had their first chance of the game when William Howard saw his shot saved by Lewis Greene before they did get themselves back on level terms after 17 minutes when a long ball over the top found the run of Charlee Hughes and he slotted home.
Ten minutes later and Burnham turned the match around by taking the lead when Julian Bavin swivelled and volleyed a superb strike leaving Greene rooted to the spot.
The ascendancy was now certainly with the home side and they should have been further ahead but for a goal line clearance by Jonathon Mbamarah as he prevented Bradley Morgan after he had rounded Greene.
They however were not to be denied and further increased their lead after Redbridge failed to clear allowing Bavin’s pass to be turned in from close range by Hughes.
With half time rapidly approaching Redbridge needed a reply and got that important goal which came through a free kick won by Mytanda. Eljay Worrell floated the ball in and the striker was in the right position to nod his header past Strizovic to set things up nicely for the next 45 minutes.
The away side started the second half much the stronger and Strizovic pulled off a good save from a deflected Patrick Duggan free kick before Worrell found himself in the box but his effort flew wide
All the play was with Redbridge who were desperately searching for the equaliser and had a great chance again through Worrell but the Burnham keeper was on hand to make a good stop from close range.
The intense pressure finally told and Redbridge levelled proceedings on 66 minutes, Moses was brought down to the ground and from the resulting free kick Worrell found Coxi Sebastfao in space and he had time to turn and shoot home.
There was no let up for Burnham as Mytanda then had further opportunities to score before Burnham had their first real chance of the half when Hughes saw his header comfortably saved.
Then out of nothing and against the run of play a defensive clearance fell to Hughes who controlled before looking up and thundering his volley from 25 yards past a despairing Greene to send the home side into wild celebrations, it certainly was a goal worthy of winning any match
Further chances for Redbridge came when a Coxi-Sebastfao cross found Moses in a good position but headed wide when he really should have found the target before substitute Liam Thomas headed over at the death.
The final whistle blew on what was likely the most entertaining match of the ESL campaign this season far however that will provide little comfort for Redbridge who finally saw their 8 match winning league run come to an end.
