Newly Promoted Redcar Make A Winning Start Against Rovers
New season, new league, Redcar put on a winning show on their annual Ladies Day celebration.
Redcar kicked off, on a gloriously sunny day, the wind was across the pitch from the stand side. It was only 4mins into the game, when Redcar were awarded a penalty, fullback Danny Addison stepped up, but unfortunately narrowly missed, but 5mins later he made amends when he converted Josh Dixon’s great try, Josh took a well timed pass from captain Richie Young and cut through the centre of Rovers defence, to score under the posts, 7 – 0. For the next 20 mins or so the game was evenly balanced, then Rovers scored a well worked try as they stretched Redcar’s defence, the conversion was missed, 7 – 5.
On 38 mins, Josh Dixon got his second try, from a forward drive the ball was spun out across the backs and Josh finished it off in style, going in once again under the posts, this was converted by flyhalf Jake Duddles (Danny Addison was temporarily off the field having some attention to a hand injury), 14 – 5. A minute later the Rovers No.4 was yellow carded for some off the ball stuff, Just on halftime, Redcar were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, but a limping Jake Duddles missed it.

Rovers got the second half underway and were immediately rewarded with a penalty, successfully taken by their flyhalf, 14 – 8. After 46 mins Redcar scored their 3rd try when from a couple of forward drives and back moves, the ball was passed out by scrumhalf Brad Stovell to man of the match, No.8 James Cochrane who dummied a pass and the cantered over the line, through Rovers nonexistent defence, the conversion was by Danny Addison, 21 – 8. Rovers missed a penalty on 53 mins and Redcar’s stoic defence kept them out for the remainder of the game.
