Stockton Win Local Derby
It was no consolation really, but in a fiercely contested game, Stockton win the first, half, Redcar win the second.
Stockton kicked off with the wind, it was a typical local derby game, both sides battling hard but Stockton with the upper hand and Redcar having to defend wave after wave of the visitors attack. Stockton were awarded a penalty after 10 mins, 0 – 3. It was 15 mins before the broke through Redcar’s lines and scored two tries in quick succession, 0 – 15.
Redcar hit back on 25 mins with a try from winger Craig Newlands, Stockton were attacking and from the Redcar 22 the ball was intercepted by Ben Durrans, who raced up the field, as he ran out of steam, it was quickly passed out across the backs to the other wing and Craig went in, in the corner, 5 – 15. Five mins later, Stockton scored again and again on 36 mins, to give them the bonus point, 5 – 29, their winger No.11 got a yellow card just before half time, for a deliberate trip as they almost scored again.
Half Time Redcar 5 Stockton 29.
The second half was very similar to the first the only difference being, Redcar’s defence held out and Stockton tired a bit and were penalised more, Redcar’s winger Cameron Miller got a yellow card on 65 mins, followed 2 mins later by a yellow for Stockton’s flyhalf, for deliberately knocking the ball on, stopping Redcar’s attacking move. Stockton failed to add any more to their tally, but just before the final whistle, Redcar had the last word, when they were reduced to 14 men because of injuries etc. they pressured Stockton and a long looping pass from Richie Young found winger Craig Newlands who attacked the corner, he tried to chip the covering defence, the ball ricocheted off the Stockton player, back into Craig’s hands as he rounded him and Craig sidestepped the remaining cover to score, Jake Duddles converted to give the scoreline a little more credence.
Final Score Redcar 12 Stockton 29.
