Redcar Blitzed At Gateshead
Redcar travelled to Gateshead with a much changed team after being let down by late cry offs etc. and only took 2 subs, they seemed in disarray.
It did not take Gateshead long to start the demolition of Redcar, just 5 mins, as they scored 2 tries in quick succession, 12 – 0. On 22 mins Redcar hit back, when awarded a penalty in front of Gateshead’s posts, they took a quick tap and Ben Durrans scored and Danny Addison added the conversion, 12 – 7. Three mins later Gateshead got their third, (19 – 7), before Redcar’s scrum half Brad Stovell was shown the yellow card, Gateshead opted for a scrum and scored again, 26 – 7. Redcar then suffered another setback when second row Drew Reader had to leave the field injured after a crunching tackle left him prone on the floor.
Half Time Gateshead 26 Redcar 7
Just minutes after the restart Redcar’s woes got even worse, winger Matty Curry got a yellow card for a tip tackle, so they were down to 14 men again. Redcar did rally a bit and the forwards scored another converted try, to give them some hope, 26 -14. Gateshead replied on 52 mins, 33 – 14. Redcar scored a third try through prop Neil Cook, yes prop !! Danny Addison, once again kicking the conversion, 33 – 21. But that was it, game over for Redcar, as Gateshead scored 4 more tries as they ran Redcar ragged and scored at ease.
