Redcar travelled north of the Tyne to the “Rising Sun Ground” of Wallsend, but unfortunately the sun did not seem to shine on Redcar, as they squandered a first half lead and once again ended up losing a game which should have been tied up long before the final whistle.
Redcar stormed into the lead with two tries scored by winger Jamie Butler and one from centre Andy Benbow, all which were converted by Danny Addison. Wallsend then came to life and scored a converted try, just before half time, to make the score 7 – 21.
In the second half Redcar continued to dominate for the first 10 mins or so, until Redcar scum half Brad Stovell was sin binned and Wallsend seized the opportunity and scored a converted try to make the score 14 – 21. Redcar replied with a penalty from Danny Addison. 14 – 24. From then on in, it was all Wallsend who scored a penalty and four more tries, two of which were converted, Making the final score 41 – 24.
Overall a disappointing result after such a great start, Redcar must learn how to shut out a game, when they are so far in front.
