Redditch United Ladies ready for historic FA Cup first-round tie

1 year ago By Tom Henman

The Reds take on The Foxes at The TRICO on Sunday (1pm)

A historic moment awaits Redditch United Ladies – and everyone associated with Redditch United Football Club – on Sunday afternoon when they take on Loughborough Foxes in the first-round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup at The TRICO Stadium.

In what is already a phenomenal achievement by the Ladies, led by manager, Gary Barrell, after progressing into the first-round proper for the first time, the team will show no fear when facing one of highest-ranked sides possible at this stage of the competition.

The Foxes are two divisions higher than Redditch and sit second in the FA Women's Premier League – Midland Division One after an unbeaten start to the season.

The Ladies warmed-up for Sunday’s eagerly-anticipated clash at The TRICO with a resounding 6-0 victory over Gornal, and like cup opponents, Loughborough, are undefeated.

The Reds' squad boasts a blend of youth and experience, including Americans, Mayme Conroy and McKenzie Karas, who have joined Redditch from the University of Nebraska and Washington respectively.

Meanwhile, senior players, like Kirsty Grigg, Lauren Pearson and Sofi Liperis, complement the balance of the group.

Both sides are in excellent form, so a tough but excellent cup tie is in-store for the spectating Reds faithful, and, like always, there’s sure to be an exciting atmosphere generated at The TRICO.

It’s a momentous moment for the Ladies, as the magic of the FA Cup comes to Redditch, and the club hopes to see many fans coming through the turnstiles and cheering the Ladies into the round two. Kick-off is at 1pm and entry at the gates is £2.
