Lacklustre Display Ends This Season's FA Cup Adventure
Having won our first FA Cup tie in six years up at Lincoln United, we will have to wait another season before getting the chance to put a cup run together.
Having been held to a goalless draw at Stratford in the league just two weeks earlier, we knew this was a tough draw and so it turned out with the home side restricting us to just a handful of chances.
The warning signs were there right from the start with former Redditch striker Edwin Ahenkorah hitting the upright after just eight minutes before keeper Ethan Ross was called on to keep out a Dan Summerfield strike.
Stratford’s pressure finally told on 32 minutes when Summerfield’s cross was only half cleared and midfielder James Fry fired into the far corner from 25 yards.
Pauly Apostolopoulos let fly with a powerful 20-yard that home keeper Louis Connor did well to push over the bar and Dior Angus whipped an effort across the face of goal early in the second period.
But it was the home side who added to the scoreline with a good goal on 64 minutes, Will Grocott’s free-kick picking out Liam Francis who controlled the ball before placing his shot beyond keeper Ross.
Spencer Weir-Daly gave us hope with a goal from 12 yards soon after but two goals in the final stages as Redditch pushed for the equaliser eased Stratford into the third qualifying round.
A quick counter-attack saw Jazz Luckie cross for Grocott to turn the ball over the line on 82 minutes and the same player then completed the scoring from the spot three minutes later after Gui Mailancol had pulled back Mike Taylor.
