Redditch United face a crucial week in their season, according to Paul Davis, as The Reds aim to get back on-track after three successive defeats.
Consecutive away losses to Hitchin Town, Alvechurch and Leiston leave Davis’s side second-bottom in the Evo-Stik South – Premier Division Central table; however, The Reds will be looking to bounce back and rediscover the form that secured three points against St. Ives Town – their last match on home soil.
Back-to-back cup fixtures await, starting on Tuesday evening (7.45pm KO) when Rushall Olympic visit The TRICO Stadium to face-off in the Southern League Challenge Cup Preliminary Round, before welcoming Rugby Town on Saturday (3pm KO) in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.
Davis said: “After playing three away matches since our last home game, it feels like a lifetime since we beat St. Ives and felt the win was going to kickstart our season – unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.
“It is very difficult to play away from home in this league, and to be the only team in the country to have played three away games in a week, that is been tough mentally and physically on the players. We now have the most important week of the season; tonight's game gives us an opportunity to give some squad players some much-needed minutes, which will, hopefully, give me some difficult decisions to make before Saturdays game in the FA Cup.”
After two below-par performances against Hitchin Town and Alvechurch, The Reds responded against Leiston but were on the wrong side of a topsy-turvy 4-3 defeat to Leiston.
Davis said: “We had trained on Thursday night, worked on how to play with a different shape, and my staff and I felt all the players understood what was being asked of them – this was evident when we started the game well and went in front early on.
"However, after that, some players neglected to follow the game-plan, which had an effect on the team’s shape. We need to defend better as a group and improve our game management. We should not concede three goals in five minutes, and when we draw level at 3-3, I expect us to at least come away with a point – if not all three.”
