U8s Week 24 Notices

Hi to all,
I hate to tempt fate, once again the weather was kind to us and it only started raining after training.

20 of the squad turned out to a warm welcome from our host club Maidenhead.

Both our Sharks and Tigers had already beaten Maidenhead at the Windsor Festival so it was going to be interesting to see how the teams had progressed over the season.

We started with a game of Bulldog followed by one training station.

We then slit the squad down into teams, Sharks, Tigers and Rams.

The first game i coached was the Rams against what looked like some very big and capable Maidenhead Cs Team. Not only did the Rams play well they held their own and soon had the run of play, out tagging the opposition and turning the ball over for a fairly convincing win.

Both the Sharks and Tigers won the first game.

We then swapped teams and also coaches.

My next game I coached was the Sharks against Maidenhead Cs ?
Not sure why Maidenhead did this as it was a very won sided game for the Sharks.
They turned the ball over each time and scored from each attempt.
I tried to make it more even by making our team pass at least three times and only three tags from the opposition for a turn over but this still did not work.
Even the squad were getting a bit embarrassed.
I final said we should stop the game when the score reached 16-0.

Both the Tigers V Maidenhead A and Rams v Maidenhead B had narrow defeats in their second games.

The final game of the day i coached was Sharks against Maidenhead As.
One of the Maidenhead lads joined the Sharks to play 8 on 8.
It was a pleasure coaching our Sharks team.
They set themselves out on the pitch, Hooker, two flankers, two centres and two wingers when in possession of the ball, with one of the quickest dropping back to full back when in defence to tag anyone who brakes through the defencive line.
They now all do this with out any prompting from the coach.
I slotted the Maidenhead lad in as an extra winger and he also dropped back to take up a second full back position.
When the run of play tended to be on one side of the pitch i will swapped some of the players positions around to give them all ago.
It was great to see the whole team working together.
They talk to each other, they hold there position and switch play if slowed down.
They really showed team work with the Maidenhead lad being fully involved in the game.
No longer only passing to their mates but passing to whoever is in the best position to receive the ball.
On two occasions moving the ball out to him on the wing to allow him to score.
Great team work.
Final score 7-2

Tigers and Rams both won the last games.

We can see the makings of the Tigers and Rams. Nearly all of them have what it takes and are all now starting to work as a team.
Hopefully this will all come together over the next month or so with many tournaments coming up.
Many thanks to Carol the U8s NAAFI for supplying tea and biscuits.

Next training is at home.
Normal time 9.50 ready to go for 10am
Have a good week
David
