Amersham & Chiltern 19 Rams Colts 7

The Colts arrived at a gale swept Amersham & Chiltern RFC high on their success in their first BBO fixture, but for various reasons, low on numbers.
No front row cover & no forwards on the bench which would prove pivotal in the result.
Rams attacked down hill but into the face of an ever stiffening wind. Decent forward play eventually lead to a penalty attempt from 22 metres out for Dias. The kick looked over straight from the boot, but the gale deflected it onto the posts. A Rams knock on gave A&C a 5m scrum. The resulting clearing kick was charged down by the Rams backrow to be dotted down by Bunch. Dias added a difficult conversion.
Almost straight from the kick off Rams found themselves camped in their own 22 with no hope of kicking the ball down the park. Pick & drive followed pick and drive, unfortunately a wayward pass didn’t go to hand & A&C were quickest to the ball as it crossed the whitewash.
The move of the game quickly followed with the A&C centre running a beautiful line to break the Rams defence & score under the posts.
Soon after the first of the Rams injuries took place with Clark managing to pop his shoulder out yet again, to be replaced by King on the flank. (King is usually a winger)
A fractious half finished 14-7 to A&C.
With the wind behind their backs in the second half the lively crowd were expecting Rams to spend most of their time in the A&C 22, however it was A&C who scored the first try of the half to lead 19-7.
Finally the Rams kicking game came into play, with clever touches from Mozejko giving the lads decent field position. Unlike the A&C lineout the Rams were throwing well & with Espley taking front ball they were setting up their trademark rolling mauls. King who’d done a great job at flanker was replaced by Wiles after suffering a dead leg, Wiles is our usual scrum half!
A 10 minute spell of pressure at the end of the match saw penalty after penalty conceded by A&C in the red zone, & at one point it seemed that a Penalty Try was sure to be given that would have seen Rams take a well deserved losing bonus point. It was not to be, A&C ran out 19-7 winners.
