Rams stay in touch with eight try romp
Rams chalked up their fifth successive bonus win to stay among the National 3 South West promotion contenders despite receiving three yellow cards.
They remain in third spot and have opened up an eight point gap to fourth placed Barnstaple whom they visit next Saturday.
Although his men ran in eight tries against the Bucks strugglers, head coach Mike Tewkesbury felt his men showed “unnecessary flamboyance” at times.
After building a 37-0 lead early in the second half, he believed they failed to play structured phases and lost their discipline.
But he added: “On the positive side, our defence was good, the set piece was sound and yet another bonus win keeps us in touch at the top.”
A Shaun Brown penalty gave Rams an early lead before some nice phases set up a try for teenage winger Dom Gosling improved by Brown, who added another three-pointer.
Chiltern winger Chris Jacks was sin-binned and Gensians made the extra man count with touchdowns from skipper Aaron Hopkins then Jevon Marsh, who took his tally to ten for the season.
A Brown conversion made it 25-0 after 22 minutes, before Rams man-of-the-match Owen Root was yellow carded for a high tackle.
In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Sonning men raced further ahead as Gosling grabbed his second try and lock Mike Turner finished off a good forward drive for his first score for the club.
Then a flurry of cards midway through the game meant a red for Chiltern’s Mike Gallagher (stamping) and yellows for Rams forwards James Baker (handling in the ruck) and Turner (not rolling away).
After losing their way a little, a Ross Bugland try for Chiltern spurred Rams into action and they finished in style with three late tries.
Seb Reynolds raced 35 yards to score in the corner, Azza Hopkins finished off good work by Rob Stapley then came a great solo effort from Jez Flynn. Brown added two conversions.

Marsh (Flynn 41); Gosling, Reynolds, Aaron Hopkins, Joao Costa; Brown, Raitt; Rumble, Fisher (Clarke 69), Baker, Turner, Root, Amor (Davies 69), Azza Hopkins, Stapley.
