AbbeyEnsians 43 - Windsor 31
AbbeyEnsians Crocks and Cheetahs give Windsor a mauling.
If AbbeyEnsian’s players could rise above the succession of early injuries brought on by the very hard ground, the chances of victory would be good. In the event,
another scratch AbbeyEnsians team stepped up with huge amounts of courage and talent to deliver a fantastic win, and move up to 3rd in Division 2!
In the circumstances of a 12-a-side match, AbbeyEnsians were able to show the open running rugby that has been their strength, but it was a tremendous all-round effort that enabled the AbbeyEnsians speedsters to score 7 tries!
You have to acknowledge the speed-guys: Zac Dellow, returning from a broken collar bone, showed real class and pace and ran in 2 tries. But for an unfortunate missed touchdown, it would have been 3. And George Lee put in an astonishing performance… Not only did he score 5 great tries, but he also saved at least 2 more certain tries with brilliant covering tackles from the wing.
However, without the great all-round team performance, George and Zac would not have benefited. The forwards put in a tremendous fight against bigger opponents, despite carrying injuries and exhaustion, and both half backs bossed the play with smarts and no little skill.
The AbbeyEnsians franchise is encouraging a whole group of talented kids to raise their performance levels in a league scenario. The season run-in is going to be very exciting!
• Forward of the Day: Callum Willis
