Planning well underway for season 2015/16

Planning for season 2015/16 at Redruth Rugby Club is well under way and the club’s Executive have announced an impressive coaching structure for the new campaign.

Continuing head coach Steve Larkins will be working with forward coaches Rob Elloway and Adrian Rutter together with backs coach Marek Churcher who has recently agreed to add his experience to the National League 2 South club. Marek is an academy coach for Exeter Chiefs and his arrival at Redruth will be much welcomed by the playing squad.

Last season the club finished 9th in National League 2 (South) and will be determined to achieve an improvement in their league standing despite the huge commitment on players and coaches to travel in excess of 8000 miles for their 15 away fixtures next season.

A number of young players gained National League experience last season and the coaching staff are confident that their game time in season 2014/15 will add to the strength of next season’s squad which will once again contain a number of more established players with club and county experience.

Steve Larkins commented ‘This year we have put together an exciting coaching team. With Rob Elloway and Adrian Rutter in charge of the forwards and, with new addition Marek Churcher joining the Reds, we are looking to push on from last year. We have some very talented young players who gained a great deal of experience from last year and that exposure to National League rugby will prove invaluable for the 2015/16 season. Redruth have a very proud rugby history and I’m sure with the squad being assembled it will prove to be an exciting and successful year.'

New recruit Marek Churcher stated ‘It’s a privilege to be asked to coach at Redruth and I am really looking forward to getting stuck in. I am looking forward to the challenges along the way and hopefully my coaching will help contribute towards a successful season. The squad is full of young (and some older!) talent and for me it’s about empowering these individuals and developing their understanding to help them become better players than they are already.

Forwards coach Adrian Rutter added ‘Coaching alongside Rob Elloway of the Cornish Pirates will be a great learning experience for myself and we are both anticipating a challenging but successful season. I am extremely excited to be working with such a talented group of forwards with a healthy balance of youth and experience. The younger players have established themselves during their first season of National League rugby and are now eager to take their next steps and uphold the fine tradition of uncompromising forward play at Redruth.'

Rob Elloway summarised ‘I'm looking forward to working with the group again. My aim is to make this pack of forwards the best it can be.’

Although next season’s fixtures have not been finalised, Redruth’s league campaign will start on Saturday 5 September 2015. Many hours will be spent on the road for the 15 away fixtures with the longest trek being Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, a round journey of 758 miles.
