Fantastic Finals Day had by all

Saturday June 25th brought us our Senior Finals day running alongside the Junior finals and despite a couple of heavy but short showers the benefit of the clay courts showed themselves with superb drainage to allow play to resume within a few minutes of the rain subsiding.

Our senior Finals started with the Mens B Draw which brought us a repeat of last years final between Chris Ogden and Patrick Coni who himself also had a very successful run to the semi-finals of the A draw before losing to James Smith.

This years final saw a repeat of many long rallies and a victory this year for Patrick 6-1 6-2

In the Ladies Doubles final between Louise Targett & Kate Haacke V Charlotte Endsleigh and Sofia Gibbon from our Juniors - in another really good match of really long rallies, Charlotte & Sofia prevailed winning 6-3 7-6.

Next Up was the Ladies A draw between last years winner Olivia Berry and Hannah Ferrett who proved too strong and who won this championship for the 1st time 6-2 6-2 just before going to the USA with a university tennis scholarship.

Peter Moore & Jackie Llewellyn combined well to defeat Dougal Bridger & Sarah Pearson in the Mixed final prevailing 6-4 6-2 before Peter & Dougal then teamed up to take on Andy Sharp and James Callow in an excellent Mens Doubles final which ended in victory for Peter & Dougal 6-2 6-4.

In the Mens singles, we enjoyed a really high-quality match between multiple winners James Smith & Adam Skalsky who shared the 1st 2 sets before Adam dominated the third to win his 4th Club Championship 6-4 3-6 6-0.

Our final event saw Louise Targett battle it out against youngster Josie Keijer in the Ladies B draw - in another long rally, high quality match, Louise finally prevailed 7-6 6-4.

Many thanks to Club Chair Deborah Hamlin for handing out all the prizes and to Mike Pinnegar for umpiring the two main singles finals - it was great to have him in the chair overseeing this.

We had a great team on the day looking after the kitchen, preparing the food, making cakes, cooking the BBQ so my thanks to Vanessa, Amanda, Julie, Sam, Paddy, Andy, Jason - forgive me for leaving anyone out but your help was invaluable.

also - many thanks to all the spectators for your great generosity in donations for both the BBQ and the cakes - it makes such a difference and we really thanks you for this.

So for another year the Club Championships are over - i will give you a few weeks break and then i will be chasing everybody to get their entries in for this years Handicap Tournament.

thanks

Mike Davies
