Club Finals Day

Despite some fairly heavy early rain which slightly delayed the start to finals day and losing courts 1&2 for all the pre-lunch matches we had a really successful and enjoyable finals day.

First up were the Ladies Doubles and this managed to put us way behind schedule with a 2 hour match with Fiona Bickley & Janet Kenny finally prevailing over Lucy Charlton & Bev Winchester.

Alongside this Jackie Llewellyn played a solid game to beat Debby Edwards in straight sets to win the Ladies B singles.

This was followed by James Smith defeating Graham Alston in the Mens A Singles.

As soon as Fiona had completed her Ladies Doubles victory she was back on court in her Mixed Doubles final with James Morris where they managed a quick victory over Karen Dodds & Andrew Sanders.

The Final match before lunch saw Olivia Berry in her first final defeat Jackie Llewellyn in the Ladies A Singles.

A lovely lunch was had by all and then the sun really started to shine and we moved onto the Mens Doubles where in a very close match James Smith and Mike Davies held off a challenge from Andy Powell and Will Bruce.

This was followed by our final match - the Mens B singles which ended up as another long match played at a high level by Chris Ogden & Patrick Coni but ultimately Chris prevailed.

Prizes were awarded by Deborah Hamlin to all winners( see photo album on website).

Many thanks to all competitors for helping to make this a really successful championship and my thanks also go to my army of helpers on the day Amanda, Sam, Paddy, Heidi, Anne, Norma, Deborah for helping produce the wonderful lunch and cakes and for helping to clear everything away.

Now its time to start organising the Handicap Tournament!!
