Remyca go close at a glittering awards night. Chairman, Don Rimmer gives us the story of the evening......

It was another great occasion for the sports people of Merseyside last Friday when the prestigious Merseyside Sports Awards were held at the Adelphi Hotel. It was a bright lights and glitter event with over 400 people in attendance.

In recognition of the growth and development of the club, Litherland REMYCA were nominated in the Sports Club of the year Category competing with clubs as wide ranging as Martial Arts to Roller Hockey. The nominations come from the five local boroughs making up Merseyside and REMYCA carried the Sefton banner.

Of the seven awards on offer two had already been collected by Sefton nominees so as crunch time arrived we kept an open mind. The eventual winner in our category was Phoenix netball club from Liverpool so congratulations to them. Indeed, congratulations to all the sports people and organisations invited to attend, they represent the best of sporting talent across Merseyside and are all winners.

This was a fine uplifting event and on behalf of Litherland REMYCA FC we were proud and privileged to be nominated. It is further recognition for our club, further raises our profile and acknowledges the massive progress we have made in recent times. A special mention to the event organisers Merseyside Sports Partnership, this was a professionally organised and staged event and worthy of the sporting community.

Well done to all.

As a footnote I would add that although an iconic landmark in Liverpool the Adelphi Hotel does take stick on occasions for poor service and standards. However, take as you find it, the pork medallions with roast veg was top drawer and wine at £11 a bottle and beer £3 a pint, the REMYCA delegates were happy!!
