Lack of Goal Threat a Problem

Litherland REMYCA travelled across to Manchester in the North West Counties Men Utd Cup competition to face Irlam Town for the first time in non league.
The game went off at a fast pace with REMYCA having the fair share of possession. The game had a familiar pattern of recent weeks with REMYCA unable to pose any goal threat despite holding the majority of the play. The inevitable happened in a seven minute spell leading up to half time when Irlam forward Jordan Icely netted in quick succession, the second goal a quality strike from the lively foward.
REMYCA tried to push on in the second half with Irlam always looking to counter on the break. In the 81st minute Jack Abraham gave the away side some hope netting a neat twenty yard free kick.Almost immediately A penalty was awarded to Irlam as defender Danny Campbell handled on a line and was shown a red card.Debutant keeper for REMY Tom Bradley produced a great save to keep his side in the game but alas all was lost when minutes later he misjudged a cross which ended in the net.As heads dropped Irlam midfielder Connor Martin inflicted further pain crashing an unstoppable drive past Bradley for a conclusive Irlam win. This has been a tough start to life in higher level football and REMYCA must regroup and go again at home against Ashton Town next saturday.
