Stafford's men blow Irlam away on Wednesday night

On a wet Wednesday night at Litherland Sports Park, REMYCA put in an extraordinary performance to beat Fa Vase 5th rounders Irlam.

The scoreline was opened by Jason McShane who was able to get on the end of a low cross into the box, finding the bottom right-hand corner in the 33rd minute of the match.

REMYCA's lead was doubled on the 42nd minute after a great finish around the goalkeeper from Lennon Whewell after a precise counter-attack from the REMY.

Stafford's side would once hit again before the halftime whistle was blown.

A shot from Paul Foy was cleared off the line, however, the linesman ruled the ball had crossed in the first minute of added time 45+1.

A penalty was awarded to REMYCA 5 minutes into the second half.

The penalty was converted by Lennon Whewell who smashed the ball into the side netting leaving the REMY cruising to three points after 50 minutes.

Irlam pegged one goal back from a short-range finish by Haydn Foulds.

This goal seemingly breathed new life into Irlam as for the next 10 minutes they pressed on and played their best football of the game.

Their efforts were in vain, however, as after a corner came in and pinged around the box Paul Foy found himself unchallenged back post finished Irlam off late in the game on 83 minutes.
