Experience and quality proves too much for young REMY side

Paul McNally's Litherland REMYCA suffered their second defeat of 2018 with a 4-0 loss away to Prescot Cables in the LCFA Senior Cup semi final.

After making eight changes from Tuesday night's tie against Alsager Town, McNally gave several youth team players their first opportunity at senior level.

The experience in the Cables side, who secured a playoff place in their division on Tuesday, paid off as they ran out 4-0 winners.

Although Cables were the better side on the night, the 4-0 scoreline was harsh as the REMYCA youth players performed admirably.

The tempo in the first half was hectic with both sides pushing to open the scoring.

It was the home side who broke the deadlock when Andrew Begbie was adjudged to have fouled a Cables player in the area and Dan Burns tucked home the penalty.

From then on, Brian Richardson's side managed the game and slowed the tempo to prevent REMYCA building any momentum.

It was nearly impossible for McNally's team to get going in the second half with Cables experience showing through to take the sting out of the affair.

Harry Cain was a constant threat on the left wing all evening, and deserved his brace.

There were suspicions of handball around Cain's first which were waved away by the referee.

Dominic Murphy, who excelled in his first appearance for the Volair Park outfit, sealed the tie in the 90th minute with the game already won.

REMYCA were forced into an early change when Colin Quirk was forced off and the side will be hopeful it's not too serious as the season comes to a close with promotion still to play for.

It's a quick turn around for the club as they host AFC Blackpool in NWCFL action this Saturday at Litherland Sports Park.
