REMYCA reserves were on the end of a 4 - 1 defeat to ALDER first team on Saturday 13th September as their unbeaten start came to an end.

It was certainly an unlucky 13th for a young REMY team as they came up against a very good ALDER team full of experienced good quality players.

ALDER took the game to the REMY straight from the kick off pressing and probing the defence without too much success. As much as they tried REMYCA could not retain the ball long enough to relieve the pressure and ten minutes into the game ALDER scored.
A short diagonal ball was delivered out wide to the oncoming ALDER attacker which he duly took into his stride and drove into the box neatly slipping it passed the oncoming REMYCA keeper.

The goal seemed to calm the REMYCA team down and they started to gain some control on the game, matching ALDER tackle for tackle. It was the turn of the away team to push forward against ALDER but try as they might they could not produce the final ball to the ever-willing REMY attack.

On the half hour REMYCA forward Shaun Reid played a one two with Dave McGreal; he managed to evade a tackle and push the ball past the centre half, but his well struck shot flew narrowly over the bar.

It now became a good game between two very committed teams, with challenges coming thick and fast, but ALDER’S attacking players held the key, and in the 40th minute a break down from a REMYCA corner saw the ball go from the edge of ALDERS box to the back of the REMYs net.

HALF TIME 2 - 0

Remy made two changes bringing on Ste Holloway up front and Al French in defence for an injured Ash Murphy. The away team knew the next goal would be important and pressed the ALDER team from the off. Five minutes in after some fine battling from Ste Coxon, Shaun Reid managed to get his head onto a ball inside the six yard box and nod it passed the keeper to make it 2 -1.

REMYCA now pushed forward and were the better team but could not find a way passed a well marshalled ALDER defence. Both Remy forwards had opportunities to score an equaliser with the home keeper coming out smartly to stop a Reid chance and Ste Holloway turning away in disbelief as his neat lob hit the inside of the post and ran along the line before being cleared.

REMYCA brought Mike Walsh on with 25 minutes to go and he added some assurance at the back to a young defence. His experience managed to keep ALDERS best forward quiet.

ALDER weathered the storm and began to gain some control, a long punt up the pitch by their keeper was missed by a REMY defender and an ALDER winger smashed the ball from 25 yards into the opposite corner for a great route one goal.

The Remy kept trying to find a goal to get them back in the game and another brave save from ALDER’S keeper, who was hurt in the process, stopped Ste Holloway from opening his account.

With 10 minutes to go one of the ALDER forwards received the ball on the right and worked his way into the box before beating the defender smashing it into the corner.

In the last minutes ALDER’S number 10 had a chance to make it a hat-trick. He attacked the box, dummied to his left but Alan French read it perfectly taking the ball off him and coming away with it.

The ref then blew his whistle.

Although ALDER deserved their win and look likely to be one of the teams pushing for promotion the 4 - 1 score line seemed a bit harsh on the REMY.

Well done ALDER and good luck for the season ahead.
