Renfrew vs Poloc

Renfrew’s first game playing in the WDCU First Division after being relegated the previous season on the 30th of April was at home to Poloc who just missed out on promotion last season.
Renfrew’s new captain and club professional Ahmed Said who took over from Sai Majeed stepping down at the end of last season after 15 years , Ahmed Said now in his tenth season with the club lost the toss and Poloc elected to bat.

There was added interest to the game with three ex Renfrew juniors featuring for Poloc with one ,Itisham Malik finding himself facing up to his father Imran Malik. Poloc opened up with the young Shah brothers both ex Renfrew juniors , they did not have a great return with Owais just back f after playing for Scotland A in Durham departing for 0 and Uzzair 11. Poloc then took a firm grip of the game and with the help of a succession of dropped catches, poor fielding and bowling and some aggressive batting in the final 12 overs by the Poloc batsman took the score to 280 for 3 wickets in their allotted 50 overs with Poloc skipper Craig Young finishing disappointingly on 99 not out , one short of a deserved century ably supported by Poloc professional J.Snyman 72 and their overseas amateur C.J. Van Der Walt on 60 not out.

Renfrew’s reply had early setbacks with two wickets falling for 15 runs, the wickets continued to tumble with the only meaningful contributions coming from Captain Ahmad Said 27 and David Graham 15 and the Renfrew innings finally coming to an end after 32.3 overs all out for 104 losing by 176 runs, which could have been even shorter as the Poloc fielders also had a dose of the early season jitters with dropped catches

Poloc picked up 25 win points with Renfrew just managing 4 bonus points, a disappointing first game for Renfrew but with several players missing through injury and unavailability hopefully will fare better against Glasgow Academicals next Saturday away.
