JAPPIE'S TON TOO MUCH FOR RENFREW

A well play hundred by Stenhousemuir professional Rushdi Jappie proved to be the difference between the teams, as Renfrew slumped to a disappointing defeat at the Deanpark Oval on Saturday (27th May).
When Renfrew skipper, Shabir Baig, won the toss he invited the visitors to bat first in the hope of restricting the visitors to a low score.
Unfortunately, Stenhousemuir openers Ross Jones and Dylan Agnew had other ideas and had posted a 36-run partnership for the first wicket before Agnew was caught by Qasim Khan from the bowling of Amrit Kalash for 14.
Stenhousemuir skipper Jones continued to lead by example as he and Suhel Patel added a further 43 runs for the second wicket, and he was disappointed when he was bowled by Sajid Majeed for 34.
When Patel was dismissed 2 runs later, also by Sajid Majeed, the home side knew that the wicket of the visitors South African professional, Rushdi Jappie, would be key to winning the game.
Unfortunately, they were made to wait a further 30 overs to achieve this and in between times the remaining Stenhousemuir batsmen managed to stay around long enough to enable Jappie to compile an innings of 101.
Such was his dominance of the run scoring that the highest score from his colleagues was 8, and his contribution was vital in the visitors reaching 212 all out in 46.4 overs.
Sajid Majeed was the standout bowler for the home side with figures of 4 for 33 from his ten overs, while Amrit Kalash (3 for 38), Shabir Baig (1 for 26), Mahmood Alam (1 for 46) and Farhan Khan (1 for 24) also contributed.
In reply, Renfrew, faced with the continuing rain interruptions and an ever-increasing Duckworth-Lewis-Stern par score to maintain, collapsed to a disappointing total of 64 all out in 21.5 overs, with only vice-captain Ryan Murray (21) and opener Irfan Nawaz (19) reaching double figures.
For the visitors, Rushdi Jappie (3 for 14), Callum Grant (3 for 20) and Dylan Agnew (2 for 5) shared the wicket taking spoils as Stenhousemuir secured an impressive 148 run victory.
Renfrew will be hoping for an improved performance from their batsmen when they return to league action next Saturday against Drumpellier at The Deanpark Oval.
