WAQAS’ SIX CARD TRICK SEALS THE DEAL FOR RENFREW!

A brilliant spell of six wickets for 28 runs from Renfrew’s Waqas Arshad saw the Royal Burgh side secure their second consecutive WDCU First Division win of the season against Irvine at the Deanpark Oval on Saturday.
Put in to bat by the visitors, the home side posted a below par total of 186 all out in 47 overs, thanks mainly to a third wicket partnership of 127 between Amrit Kalash (56) and Mahmood Alam (66), while the visitors South African amateur, Brandon Harwood picked up 5 wickets for 38.
In reply, Renfrew fast bowlers Waqas Arshad and Imtiaz Uddin (2 for 16) tore the heart out of the visitors batting and reduced them to 39 for the loss of eight wickets inside 16 overs.
The visitors’ other South African amateur, Jonathan Waspe, provided some resistance with the top score of 24 but the innings was brought to premature end in the twenty fourth over for just 68 runs.
This result sees Renfrew climb one place in the league table from seventh to sixth.
Elsewhere in the division, leaders West of Scotland, returned to winnings ways with a comfortable win over bottom side St. Michaels at Kingholm.
West posted an impressive 270 for 7 in their 50 overs and then bowled the home side out for 90 in 31.4 overs, to secure a 180 runs win.
This allowed West to widen the gap over second placed Stirling County who suffered a four-wicket defeat at home to Glasgow High/Kelvinside.
County posted a total of 198 for 9 in their 50 overs, which was overtaken by the visitors (199 for 6) with five overs and one ball to spare.
In the days’ other matches, Weirs secured maximum points with a 37-run victory over Drumpellier while Stenhousemuir were beaten at home by Glasgow Accies by 15 runs.
This weekend Renfrew face a tough assignment with a trip to New Anniesland, in Glasgow’s west end, to take on Glasgow Accies.
Top of the table West entertain fifth place Stenhousemuir at Hamilton Crescent, while second place Stirling County travel to Ayrshire to play Irvine.
Weirs take on bottom side St. Michaels at Kingholm in Dumfries, while Glasgow High/Kelvinside host Drumpellier at Old Anniesland.
