... Appleby Frodingham match sees 100 games for Retford...

After their emphatic win against Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Friday evening, Retford FC continue on their travels as they visit Appleby Frodingham on Saturday. Game number two of a 9 game run of away matches, the next game at the Rail Ground not coming until 28th April !

The game does see one milestone as it will be the 100th competitive game in all competitions for Retford so the club will be looking to mark that in style looking to carry on the momentum from the last two victories, 3-0 against Collingham and 5-0 against Lincoln Moorlands.

The Lincoln game saw the players exceed the expectations of a delighted Manager Chris Woodhead very happy with the victory, full of praise for the players after their efforts and a mention for the ever growing away support. It saw a debut as substitute for Grimsby Town loanee Ryan Evans and some superb goals scored by Adam Scott (3) and Martin Woodhead (2) for the win.

Woodhead said “It's been two good results against teams above us in the league which shows our potential that I have always known. The game away to Lincoln was probably our best performance of the season and we had a big following from Retford and did them proud.”

“I'm very proud of the players as we are really working hard as a group and getting our just rewards with the latest results. The players coming back from injuries and suspensions have given us more options.” he continued.

The win pulled Retford up into 4th position on 45 points, with Saturday’s hosts Appleby Frodingham in 10th place 10 points behind. With the sides yet to meet this season, it will be a trip into the unknown, despite that, Woodhead will be aware of their recent form, 1 win, 3 losses and 1 draw in the last 5 games, Appleby Frodingham have a relatively decent form at home, winning 4 and drawing 4 of their 11 games played this season.

“We have Appleby away Saturday which again is a big game. They have been up in the NCEL where we want to be, and they are a well-run club with quality players. We will have to play to our full potential again to claim the 3 points.”

Appleby’s latest result was a 3-1 defeat to Collingham FC, the last win coming on 27th January against Renishaw Rangers (3-0).

It’s honours even in the previous meetings with two wins a piece in the four meetings so far.
