The game, played in misty conditions, started with the visitors pushing forward from kick off and testing the home defence, Lewis Stephens hitting a shot at goal with Jon Kennedy getting down to collect.
Liam White tried to get Retford on the front foot, making a run on the left and crossing the ball into the box, Jack Johnson only just missing out on the header as he rose under the challenge of the goalkeeper.
Zach Casburn burst forward, a lay off to George White was struck towards goal but the power was lacking and the Glasshoughton keeper was able to make an easy save.
At the other end, Ashley Bell had Retford’s defence breathing a sigh of relief, Kennedy having to go at full stretch to tip the ball round the post with James Cusworth looking to follow in.
Liam White fired over the bar and Matt Robinson had a shot cleared as Retford continued to push but couldn’t break the deadlock.
Jack Walters’ cross didn’t find a Retford player with Thomas Carr in the Glasshoughton goal rising to catch the ball and thwart another chance for the home side.
The visitors were close again, a free kick on the right was headed towards goal by Aaron Gray, the ball cleared with the follow up hit just a fraction over the crossbar. Neither side could make the most of their chances and the half ended all square.

The mist continued to descend as the second half started with Retford coming out looking for an opening, Matt Parking firing a shot from distance that was over, then two free kicks from dangerous positions on the edge of the box for Glasshoughton could have been worse, the first hit just wide of the upright then the second hitting the wall and cleared.
There was a blow with Matt Robinson being forced off through injury, replaced by Will Lyon from the Under 18 side but he stepped up and did well keeping the Glasshoughton attack at bay.
Eventually, on 68 minutes, Retford opened the scoring. A Glasshoughton attack was saved by Kennedy, his kick upfield bounced awkwardly for the defence and Alex Wonham was on hand to take the ball and fire it into the bottom left hand corner past the outstretched hand of the keeper.
There was only four minutes to wait for the second goal, Wonham again on target as he took a pass from Adam Scott before turning and running towards goal, unleashing a shot from outside the box into the back of the net.
With Retford now on top, it was a matter of time before another was scored, and that came on 78 minutes, a corner ball played in was punched clear, falling to Parkin on the edge of the box firing in a powerful strike through a crowded box and hitting the target.
Adam Scott had two good chances, the first skewing wide and his second just over the bar as he looked to extend the lead.
Glasshoughton pushed but were given little reward, one late chance forcing a great save by Kennedy who was determined to keep a clean sheet.

A well deserved win for the home side in difficult conditions, Chris Woodhead was delighted after the game saying, “What a result, as always, I am proud of the lads and it was a great win in horrible conditions.”

Retford now have a short break over Christmas and return to action on Tuesday 28th December as they make the short trip to Ollerton Town.
