Determined Fightback
Super performance from Retford Utd
Retford travelled to Arnold for what was their first pre season friendly, under strength but full of confidence. The match was a credit to both teams but started with Arnold at full strength taking themselves to a 3-0 lead. Spurred into action Retford's girls began a spirited fightback several superb passing moves inlvolving Chloe Markham, Alyss Hill and Abbi Langhorne lead to Abbi being able to pick up a hat trick of goals. Building in confidence the girls pushed on and were dominating the 2nd half of the match. Unfortunately they could do nothing about the moment of brilliance when Arnold's No9 curled the ball into the top left hand corner of the net from outside the area with not long left in the game.
Lauren Gilbert once again performed outstanding in defence tough tackling stopping Arnold dead many times. Katie Taylor in her first game in black and white played in all positions and played extremely well. Aimee Flaherty Green in goal again made many fine saves. Picked as our player of the match though, by Arnold's manager and Referee Gerry Ward, was Robin Flaherty Green at just turned 8 and youngest player on the field.
The match was watched by Notts Girls and Ladies league secretary Jason Lowther who was extremely impressed by the way we played and the attitude of our players and parents.
WELL DONE ALL
