An Interview with U19s Manager Rich Williams
Below is an interview which I recently did for a football blogger and which is relevent to the U19s.
Retford United U19s commence pre-season training on Wednesday 11th July and Manager Rich Williams says he has just one goal for the coming season. That goal is to put together a squad that can finish the season as North Midlands U19s League Division Two Champions.
Pinxton and local rivals Worksop Town were both promoted and have been replaced by Division Three winners Dunkirk and Buxton who are promoted with them.
‘Apart from these two changes it’s the same make-up of teams as last year and if you look at it on merit we finished top of those who remain’ said Williams.
‘We’ve already got a good group here and I’m looking to add four or five more quality players to replace those that we have lost and help to make us really competitive, by the end of the 1st week in August I will know who my 20 are that we will take forward into the new season’.
United will face West Bridgeford Colts, Southwell City, Harworth CI, Matlock Town and the two promoted sides Dunkirk and Buxton in the league and as yet await their fate in the league cup.
‘Having spoken to the new first team managers Rich Sennett and Mark Turner it is clear that the future for young players at the club is bright so the lads have first team football to aim for and that should give them the hunger to go out there and prove themselves every night. This league is winnable and that exactly what we are looking to do.’
‘The main focus will always be on player development but a positive winning mentality is a big part of that development and that’s what Adam (Scott) and I will be looking to get from everyone who pulls on the black and white stripes’.
‘This is a unique opportunity to be part of a very bright future for this football club and we really can’t wait to get started’ Williams finished.
Details of where training will be held are on the club website on the U19 team homepage and any further information can be obtained from Rich Williams on 07946 323177 or Andy Ellis on 07788 259406
Work is underway on the pre-season schedule with 3 friendlies secured and Williams is currently speaking with a Central Midlands League Club as well as two other U19s teams and another senior team as he looks to complete the pre-season schedule.
The friendlies will begin on Sunday 22nd July with a trip to local side Woodbeck Diagonals and the other secured friendlies for which we don’t yet have dates are against Clipstone Welfare (Senior) and Worksop Town (U19).
