Big news to report this week. Committee members, upgrades to Union Park, Cougars Big Cycle Charity Event, Lions and much, much more...

It is a real privilege to report that Derek Ulke has stepped up to President following the resignation and departure of Kim Wilson. Over the past 12 months, Derek has been an integral part of the committee and revival of the Cougars, especially in relation to the use of Union Park and the success last year. We will of course need to hold and EGM to ratify this and other committee posts. But we are hoping he will keep the mantel when that time comes. Watch this space for more details on that situation. Until then may we all wish Derek every success.

This week sees the start of the upgrades to Union Park over the summer period. The first part of this project is to install an accessible toilet in the club. Work is currently underway as I type this the team have wasted no time in ripping out the ladies loos to make way for the new facilities. These changes allow the club to open up uses to a wider community and makes us a more attractive venue to generate funds from functions and use of clubs, such as Slimming World, who use Union Park on Monday nights. All changes should be up and running by the weekend...just in time for the Big Cycle!

Last weekend saw the launch of the much anticipated, British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. Let's be honest, it was a terrible game to whet the appetite...but I'm sure Gatland has been following Cougars TV (all rights reserved) and will know how to turn around the mood in the camp. Clearly what's needed is a Top Beer Challenge or two for some of the poor performances!! H owever, all that aside, Union Park are putting on breakfast for the Test Matches. And if you're not as fortunate as Elliot Brown and able to pop over for 2 days then back, then head down to the club and soak up atmosphere with your friends and fellow members. Tickets are £7.50 and that'll get you a great breakfast and some liquid to wash it down with. See Stevie Campbell for tickets.

Just a few other points of interest to keep you updated with. Training still going on each Thursday at Union Park, 18:30pm. If you are keen for a trot you just need to pitch up. We even had threats from Jan Renstead earlier in the week but that didn't materialise...too busy with Chinese takeaways I think. Jokes aside, another well attended session and even a guest appearance from Gordon Lyon which was nice.

Additionally talks are still on going with SRU in relation to league position and those who shall not be mentioned. A meeting with David Edge from SRU took place last Thursday night. All very positive and we seem to be in a good position as well as being in favour for our positive reaction over the past few months. More details to follow when we have more to tell.

Summer is packed with events at the club. Event invites will be sent out via the RHC Cougars Union Park page, so that they can be shared to a wider audience.

Please help us by supporting the club over the summer.
