2017/2018 will very much be ‘Business As Usual’ for RHC Cougars – we will continue to run Senior Mens, Ladies and Junior/Minis sections. Our aim, as always, is to be as competitive as possible and provided rugby to all.
We currently intend to use the club facilities at Barnton and Union Park as we have since the merger some years ago and as per the signed agreements we have in place with the Royal High Athletics Club.
Based on the positive discussions with the SRU we do not envisage any changes to the league status of our Senior Mens or Ladies teams.
We are actively recruiting and have a good number of new players already confirmed as joining us next season. We'd encourage the membership to continue to help us find new players and social members for the coming season. Current coaches would welcome any new playing members to Union Park on Thursday nights from 18:30.
We are also actively recruiting coaches to enhance our solid core of coaching staff to replace those who we parted company with at the end of last season – nothing confirmed on this yet but we have a number of opportunities that we are exploring with individuals expressing an interest in joining the club.
We’ve also had a number of Members coming forward to become part of our new committee and would welcome anyone else who feels they could contribute positively to the club.
Fundraising continues apace for the Cougar Rugby Community Trust with the Cougars Cycle 4 Cry scheduled for 10th June – please contact Derek Ulke or Dougie Cross for more details on this.
With regards the breakaway club we know that many members have questions and are keen to understand what their intentions are. While the breakaway club has been constituted by the SRU as an Associate Club this week, there are additional governance hurdles for it to successfully pass through before it will be granted a place in any league.
Given this situation, we are actively trying to arrange a meeting with Royal High Athletics Club to reaffirm the existing agreements that grant RHC Cougars access to the pitches and facilities at Barnton and to ensure we are all on the same page moving forward for next season.
Any players who have found themselves in the dark about what has happened and feel left out of the loop are welcome to get in touch. We would very much extend the olive branch to those that find themselves on the fence or are uneasy with the direction of the new club.
As more details become clear we will keep the membership informed.
Moving forward we will be solely focusing on the challenges that the 2017/18 season will bring for our us and are looking forward to a very positive future for the club.
