So a lot has happened since the last NFTT!
The season on the pitch is about to reach the midway point and although some results haven't gone our way there is a lot to shout about!
The 1st XV have been putting in some tough shifts with often depleted sides thanks to an unfortunate run of injuries but the Corstorphine spirit and grit has shone through almost every week and there will no doubt come a point when things turn round. Numbers at training are improving and the systems the coaches have put in place are starting to bare fruit.
Having picked up 27 players (and counting), we must be doing something right!! This has meant we've managed to put out the 2nd XV almost every week and it's been great to see so many guys develop this year and starting to put some great phases of rugby together! Looking forward to seeing how the team develops and improves in the 2nd half of the year.
The Women's team have of course been the highlight of the year so far. Putting in some fantastic performances at Union Park and sealing a 2nd place finish before the league split. They start the second part of their campaign this Sunday with a local derby against Murrayfield Women. They really are the shinning light in the club at the moment and we hope to see them challenge for the league title over the next few months.
Off the pitch we've had a lot going on to. We've had to make some big investments in some of the clubs infrastructure. With much needed investment in new floodlights on pitch 2 and new electric shutters on the clubhouse we've invested in the future of the club and are setting ourselves up for the next few years of improvement for the club. The committee have put in a huge amount of effort to make these things happen especially from the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Derek Ulke and Stevie Wright. You would also have noticed the new Disabled toilet and changes to the Ladies toilet facilities which happened over the summer. A huge thanks to Malc Maiden and his team of helpers for making these things happen. We have more we need to do and you'll start to see a few more changes soon.
Most folk will have heard now that Malc has been a bit poorly of late and we wish him all the best in his recovery! His efforts over the last few years have been monumental and only when people like Malc aren't about do you really appreciate how much time and effort they have been putting in to keep us going!! Get well soon Malc!
Which leads me to a small plea for volunteers! We've a lot we want to do and are always on the look out for club members to stick their hands up and take responsibility for doing something round the club. Whether that be cleaning the kit (Grant and Mary Forbes), running the water bottles on (Graeme Mclean), cooking up a storm (Eddie Wilson)... the club simply just doesn't run without folks like these! And we need more of you to help!
Please get in touch with me (Westy) if you think you can help in some way!
We've a ladies lunch coming on the 25th November. £20 a head for a Mediterranean menu and some Prosecco. The event is being hosted by two of Corstorphine's favourites, Margo Mclean and Nicki Robinson. A great opportunity for the ladies to catch up with faces from the past and meet some of the new WAG's! Please contact Nicki to get involved or find the event on the clubhouse Facebook page.
All the games will be shown live in the club house and we'll no doubt have a great time doing so! Bring your friends and family down for some pre/post match banter and give them a real rugby day out experience! We're welcoming 70 kids and Adults from the Minis pre the Samoa game tomorrow and we've some live music post match to keep us going before the France v All Blacks later on! We'll be showing the other games as well!
If you've not picked up your tickets for the games yet please get them from behind the bar and pay your money immediately!!
We've finally got the card machine up and running which is doing my bank balance and alcohol intake no good whatsoever... but will save you that lonely stroll to the cash machine over the road!
Subs are still due from a few folks!! So with the card machine up and running there is no escape!! Please get your subs in asap before we start hunting you down and taking fingers...
With the Keswick 40th Tour coming we'll be launching a dedicated page on the site to the Keswick tour. If you are keen to come on the tour we have a few places left... We're taking 100 bodies to Keswick this year... its going to be epic...
