August Newsletter
THIS WEEK:

Sunday 20th August | Training @ Barnton | 13:00 | P1-P7

Welcome back to the Rugby Season! It's been a busy summer with lots happening in the background. Hopefully your all rested and have had a lovely summer break enjoying all the sunshine...oh, wait? Was that our summer?

Well the good news is that Rugby is back and your children can resume participating in a great outdoor activity to burn off all that excess energy!

Please read on to hear a bit about what's been happening in the minis world while you have been away...

Coaches Personal Development
CPD
Recently the coaching team attended a ‘CPD’ session to get prepared for the commencement of the season. It was great to see the coaches honing their skills and participating in the activities which will be delivered to the kids.
The competitiveness soon came to the forefront but we're glad to report the day finished injury free!

Working Group
A Coaches Working Group has been set up due to last season’s news on the creation of a new senior club Barnton RFC, playing at the Royal High School. This resulted in the current RHC Cougars RFC returning over the hill to Union Park.

We are pleased to say that the minis will continue to run as ‘RHC’ Cougar Minis and work with both senior clubs through this season. This gives us the opportunity to ensure we have as little disruption to the kids as possible which is paramount.

We will also be able to lean on each club for support when required to have more fun events for the children. Good progress has been made on this front and we will see more events at Union Park and continued use of Barnton.

The fixtures list has been updated to reflect this and is attached. It is worth noting that the plan is to work towards establishing two thriving separate mini sections by the end of the season based at the respective clubs, however this is very much a work in progress and more information will follow. It goes without saying that your feedback and support is welcomed on this front.

Rugby Force Day @ Union Park
Saturday 26th August from 2 - 5pm

Rugby Force is a an event run by clubs all over Scotland and is designed for all sections within a rugby club to come together for a fun day with lots of activities. It's a great opportunity to meet old and new friends and see what being part of the Cougars really means.
The RHC Cougars First XV are also playing against Dunbar at 3pm during this event. All the activities are free (except BBQ)

1) Water slide - Big long tarpaulin and running water..

2) Ice bath Challenge

3) Giant Rugby Inflatable

4) Touch rugby - If we have enough kids, we will organise rolling games

5) Rugby assault course

6) Crossbar challenge (after the First XV match)
Anyone over 12 has to kick from 30 metres from hand and try to hit the crossbar, anyone under 12 gets to do it from 20 metres. If more than one does hit the crossbar, then they go to a final and they get another 3 goes. It goes to sudden death after that. If no-one hits then it is the one agreed as closest to hitting that wins!

7) BBQ

Remember to bring a change of clothes and a towel :-)

Help running each activity would be appreciated, anyone willing to help, please let Jim know...

Minis Facebook Page
One of the most frequent feedback items from last season was around communication, we hope to bridge that gap and improve the two way communication for parents and coaches etc..Check out the page for more details..

We have lots of events planned for this season, one for the diary is the 'bring a friend day' on the 10th September.

Speak to your child and see if their best friend would like to come along and 'try' out some fun filled rugby!
