Rhydymwyn 5 - 0 Rhos Aelwyd
Welsh National League Division 1
Rhos Aelwyd's unbeaten run in 2017 came to an end with a thump against a very good Rhydymwyn side. The hosts were sharper and quicker than Rhos Aelwyd and by the first 20 minutes we found ourselves 3-0 down. The first goal came from a free kick with the striker pouncing onto a loose ball in the box.
The second goal came when the tall winger beat Ryan to the ball and headed into the corner and the third goal was a cross to the box where Rhydymwyn's striker was quicker to react in a packed box to slot home.
More bad news was to follow for Rhos when Aled Dodd was shown a straight red card for what was deemed a dangerous tackle. Rhos did come into the game a bit more and James Haynes did get a shot but not enough to trouble the goalkeeper. Ryan Jenkins had to have header tipped over too to force a corner.
Rhos did play better in the second half, battled well and had a couple of opportunities, one from a cross into the box, with the resulting header looping into the top corner only for the Rhydymwyn keeper to gather the ball. Rhos were gaining momentum in the game and were becoming more threatening with Sam Baldam running at the defenders and nearly scored with his shot. Unfortunately for Rhos there was a mixup at the back for Rhydymwyn to score a 4th. With minutes on the clock, Rhydymwyn did break away, playing good football for the striker to hit the ball past Ryan in goal.
It's got to be put down to one of those days and next week the management team will be expecting a better start from the Rhos team who have looked so promising since the turn of the year. Next week Rhos Aelwyd face Maesgwyn.
