AFC Brynford 1 - 4 Rhostyllen
Village end 2016 as league leaders
Rhostyllen ensured they ended 2016 on top of Division one with a victory away from home on Saturday. The Village made only one change from the previous starting 11 with Drew Wickens coming in for the injured Stu Chaloner, added to the squad were Richard Smith and Neil Evans.
The away team started well and adjusted to the slope of the Brynford pitch. After a scrappy 24 minutes they took the lead when some great football saw Steven Jones chip the ball over the defense where it was met by James Jones who had ran clear to head home for the away team. Brynford were level when a ball which looked out of play was waved away by the linesman as the ball found its way to the edge of the box before the Brynford player slotted home. The away team were furious with decision.
Half time 1-1
Rhostyllen had a great chance to take the lead when Mark Williams was fouled in the box. Up stepped Rob Gibson who's low penalty was saved by the keeper. Rhostyllen continued to press and went ahead when a cross from the by line was met by Rob Gibson to head home. The away team were now in full control and passing the ball round and stretching the home side, Mark Williams made in 3-1 when he got in between defenders to slot home. The scoring was completed when Captain Steven Jones finished well after more good play from the away side.
A good win which ensured we ended 2016 on a high. Next up a home tie vs Cefn Druids in the cup on the 2nd of January 2017
