Catel Alun 1 - 2 Rhostyllen
Village climb to the summit
Rhostyllen moved 1 point clear at the of the Division 1 table with hard fought 2 - 1 win away at the Hope sports centre.
On a freezing cold afternoon with a side wind going across the pitch it seemed like Winter had arrived. A last minute drop out due to illness saw a reshuffle for the Away team. Mark Williams started the game as hat trick hero Rob Gibson moved back to centre half.
The game was scrappy to begin with as the village tried to adapt to the conditions and the tight pitch. They took the lead in the 19th minute as nice link up play saw the ball passed through to Kevin Roberts who advanced from midfield to calmly finish to the left of the goalkeeper.
The away team went 2-0 to the good in the 19th minute when a counter attack from a Casty corner saw Mark Williams put through, as the defender was about to tackle, Williams cut the ball back and slotted the ball under the oncoming goalkeeper. The away team were now well on top and frustrating the home team. That was until a Casty defender was allowed a free run from a corner and headed the ball into the net.
The 2nd half saw the away team dig in and put their bodies on the line as they struggled to get going. Missed chances from a 1 on 1 and a back post header ensured their was a nervy finish. The full time whistle went and it was yet another win for the Away team.
Rhostyllen remain unbeaten after 9 games, with 8 wins and just the 1 draw. A free Saturday next week as we return to action on November 19th away to Llangollen.
