Next Monday we play away at Mynydd Isa Spartans, which will draw a close to what has been a difficult 17/18 season on the pitch. Our final league position should have no reflection on the commitment of our committee and management team, which has been first class this season once again. The loss of several key members of the squad just prior to the start of the campaign had a lasting effect throughout the season, however this provided a learning curve for the club to ensure that doesn’t not occur again.
All at Rhydymwyn FC are eager to put this season behind us and are excited about the plans for the 18/19 season. Our first team will compete in the WNL Division 1 for a third season since our reformation and our U19’s will continue in the Queensferry Sports Junior Sunday league. We will also be entering a reserve team into the WNL Reserve & Colts league to assist the integration of our impressive young players currently at the club from junior to senior football. A lot of this seasons U19’s impressed with the first team this season at some stage and the introduction of a reserve side will ensure they have the right environment to develop as footballers knowing the opportunity to progress into the first team is there should their form warrant a call up.
Anthony Weaver will continue with his role as first team manager. Stew Tarrant will also continue with his role on Anthony’s backroom staff, as will Dave Willetts who joined the club midway through the second half of the season. Joining at the start of the campaign and completing the management team for the firsts will be Jord Parry, who recently obtained his UEFA B license, will bring a wealth of footballing and tactical knowledge.
For our newly formed Reserves, current U19’s manager Rob Ross will make the step up to senior football and will be joined by his loyal assistant Steve Sharples and coach Andy Williams. Rob and his coaches have excelled this season with our U19’s, and the way they and their players have supported the first team has been exemplary, which is why we know that they are the right men for the job.
Our U19’s will have a new management team at the helm and will look to continue the fantastic efforts of Rob Ross and all his coaches from this season. Jordan Jackson has been appointed as U19’s manager for the upcoming season and he has named Rossi Hughes and Joe Barlow as his backroom staff. Jordan is a young, eager and committed individual who we are confident will make a fantastic manager and we are pleased that he will be supported by Rossi and Joe throughout the season.
'Keeper coach Clive Davies will also be joining the club on an ad-hoc basis and will provide quality sessions for all goalkeepers at the club.
Chairman Mike Chesters on his excitement for the upcoming season: "As Chairman of Rhydymwyn FC, I am delighted to welcome new and enthusiastic young coaches and managers. I am also delighted with the progress of the Under 19’s and I look forward to the new season and the challenges it will bring.
