Rhydymwyn Reserves v Brymbo Reserves
This Saturday saw us enter the first round of the League Cup against Brymbo Reserves at the Mornflake Mighty Oats Ground and play our first game of the season in the rain!!
With a sudden downpour just before kick off meant the pitch was in perfect condition for a passing game, this gave the advantage to Rhyd. Within the first minutes of the game our ability to knock the ball around was clear and the possession of the game was with Rhyd but for all the passing and possession there was no end product. Scotty Nelson was causing problems for the Brymbo defence, rolling the defenders with great strength and creating Rhyd's first chances but no goal came. Brymbo were strong and at times played some decent football, creating space pushing forward and causing Rhyd defence problems and with this pressure, saw a mix up in the Rhyd defence which allowed Brymbo in to take the lead 0-1. The Brymbo goal seemed to spur Rhyd on, and as the football continued to flow it was not long before Rhyd equalised through Scott Nelson. The first half continued, both teams searching for another goal, and through some decent football Brymbo took the lead, 1-2 but this was not for long as a Rhyd corner saw confusion in the Brymbo defence and the poaching ability of Connor Gorman saw Rhyd equalise 2-2. Halftime.
The second half saw Rhyd start to get on top, changes to formation and substitution of Jamie Wynne for Alex Jones àllowed for Rhyd to get at Brymbo, bringing long periods of possession but no end product, further changes saw Ryan Coops make his first appearance in midfield, coming on for Jord Jackson and although Brymbo threatened at times there was no further scoring, full-time came 2-2, extra time needed.
With the game now going into an additional 30 minutes, fitness would tell, and with Rhyd having worked hard on this throughout pre season the game moved in the advantage of Rhyd, the possession paid off, pressure on the Brymbo defence led to Rhyd taking the lead through on Own Goal 3-2 Rhydymwyn. It was clear Brymbo were struggling to keep up with Rhyd and before long Scott Nelson muscled his way through the defence to get his second of the game 4-2 Rhyd. The pressure continued with some decent football being played by Rhyd, with the last change being made, Ryan Davies coming on for Alex Jones and Andy Speed being moved into Midfield, Rhyd began to take full control of the game allowing Gary McNaught to score a delightful goal with a strike just outside the area, 5-2 Rhyd. With the game drawing to an end, a great through ball from Ryan Sharp saw Scott Nelson beat the Brymbo keeper and walk the ball into the net for a well deserved hattrick, his 3rd in 3 games 6-2 Rhydymwyn. Full-time.
This was a good win for the lads, the ability to play football in the way they do will see more Wins than losses, we just need to build this confidence and work together as one.
