Ladies 2s Feeling Hot Hot Hot With A 100% Record
By DOTD Penny Lawrence
In stark contrast to last weekend, an unseasonably warm October day saw the Ladies 2s make a slow start against Bedford. Not sure if it was the heat or the fact we actually had a full team and a substitute – but our mojo wasn’t flowing.
Numerous chances came and went but we managed to break the deadlock with a lovely goal from Katie B. Short corners followed and another fabulous stroke from Jess W saw us 2 – 0 up as we headed into the half time break. A slight shuffle of players and we came out for the second half raring to go! The defensive team of Georgina, Kate E, Lexie, Caroline and Sara were on top form but Bedford managed to sneak a goal in.
The midfield worked tirelessly despite the heat with some silky passing from Beth, Julie and Anna up to the forwards and wings with Caleigh having some impressive runs into the D. The hard work paid off and after a beautiful pass across the D from Julie I managed to slip the ball through the goalies legs.
With 5 minutes to go we were awarded a flick and Beth B kept her cool and hammered it home! I had moved into a defensive position for the last few minutes of the game and was very much a fish out of water – defending a short corner and running towards the striker ….. I’m not sure whether it was me running, jumping, screaming or what but she knocked my stick out of my hands, earning me the DOTD, at least I stopped the ball ?
All in all another glorious win – with Anna and Sara being awarded joint player this week for their dogged determination and work rate – well done everyone ?
