It was a case of so near yet so far for our U14's in the LJIL Shield decider at Ballymacoss. Playing against table toppers Lisburn Distillery who have themselves shown great unbeatable form all season, our boys went into the game as slight underdogs yet by the final whistle were very unlucky not to have lifted the shield having dominated the game for lengthy periods.
One momentary lapse at the start of the second half allowed Distillery their only chance of the game which they took. Undeterred Ridgeway continued to play some excellent intricate pass and go football which the Lisburn side struggled to contain.
Despite the disappointing result, yesterdays performance just demonstrates how much this squad has developed since entering the Lisburn League.
After the game, the boys, parents and supporters returned to La Mon Hotel and Country club for a courtesy swim and lunch which helped lift spirits.
Well done boys, you showcased yourselves and Ridgeway Rovers FC with great distinction playing excellent football from start to finish. Sometimes in football you just don't get what you deserve.
Great effort boys, you had the toughest route to the final beating teams that expected to be in the final themselves. You have alot to be proud off, your preparation and performance were spot on. Alot to look forward to for the rest of the season.
Really well done boys - you definitely did not deserve to lose in what was a very even match - I was convinced you were going to pull one back with the pressure and domination late in the second half.
Next time round I'm sure the experience of yesterday will make you even stronger as a team - and you'll have the cup in your hands.
Roll on 2012 - there's still everything to play for!
What an impressive perfomance ! You played excellent football and can hold your heads high. You did not deserve to lose! Onwards and upwards and it is only a matter of time until you win a trophy.
Well Done Lads! -we are so proud of you.
Congratulations on an excellent performance yesterday boys. Always very disappointing to lose a final, but with terrific performances right through the team, it was a match you certainly didn't deserve to lose. A lot of very complimentary comments from the coaches and supporters of Lisburn Distillery may be little comfort, but it does show you are being recognised as a team that play football the right way and are improving as individuals and as a unit. Well done !!!
Well done lads , a performance to be proud of... so much guts and determination throughout the team, it will come .
All of us are so proud , keep the spirits up :))
A great performance all round everyone played very well i thought you deserved more out of the match but thats football.Maybe you have all learnt something from this that will stand you in good stead in the future you dont always get what you deserve.Be proud of your selves boys because i am.....))))
The two best defences in the league was always going to lead to a tight game but I am so glad that Ridgeway Rovers played the best football by far throughout the game despite the result. I have followed this team since the club was formed in 2003 and yesterday was a proud day for me to see them in a long overdue final. EVERY player was a credit to themselves, their coaches and to our club. The endless favourable comments I received from many FOOTBALL people on the sidelines throughout the game about the desire shown by the team on the day was superb. This is but one day in the football lives of these young men who will continue to develop as individuals and as a team and will receive their just rewards on another day. Good luck for the rest of the season.
In addition to everything already said here - if any of you are in doubt, we have edited highlights from the match coming soon for you to watch and be proud of. (Once we've negotiated commentary from Guy Mowbray).
Seriously though, you ALL played so well. It's only a matter of time and things are only going to get better and better as you continue to grow and develop together. Roll on the rest of the season as you have all of us hooked :-)
What a team, professional young men that are a credit to their parents, coaches and club. After going 1 nil down early in the 2nd half they continued to play the better football but just couldn't get that equaliser. Hard work and determination was shown right to the final whistle. A big thank you to the club, coaches and parents for making it a memorable day, and not forgetting the most important people of all ;-) the funny, happy, always raking but always professional players themselves, the RRFC 98's
