Anti-Bullying Policy

Bullying is not easy to define and can take many forms. It is usually repeated over a period of time.

The three main types of bullying are:

Physical (eg. Hitting, kicking)
Verbal (eg. Racist or homophobic remarks, threats, name calling)
Emotional (eg. Isolating an individual from activities)

They will all include:

•Other forms of violence
•Sarcasm, spreading rumours, persistent teasing or theft
•Tormenting, ridiculing, humiliation
•Racial taunts, graffiti, gestures
•Unwanted physical contact or abusive or offensive comment of a sexual nature

Emotional and verbal bullying is more likely to be found in rugby than physical violence. It is also difficult to cope with or prove.

Within this club we will:

•Take the problem seriously
•Investigate all reported incidents
•Talk to the alleged bullies and victims separately

If bullying has occurred the coach should decide on appropriate action, such as:

•Obtain an apology from the bully(ies) to the victim
•Inform the parents of the bully(ies)
•Insist on the return of any items “borrowed” or stolen
•Insist bullies compensate the victim
•Hold club discussion about bullying
•Provide support for the coach of the victim

He/she should also inform the Child Protection Officer and refer to the Club’s Behaviour Policy.
