Child Protection
Ripon RUFC
Child Protection Policy
At Ripon Rugby Club we believe that taking part in sport should be a positive, enjoyable and developmental part of children’s lives.
All players, coaches, assistants, officials, parents and helpers will be encouraged to follow the four main tenets of Rugby Union:-
Enjoyment
Excitement
Endeavour
Equity & Law
We aim to make sure that all children are protected and kept safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm while they are with the Club’s coaches, helpers and other volunteers.
To do this we have these aims:-
All coaches/assistants will go on an RFU Coaching Course before they begin working with children.
All coaches and assistants will be vetted as per RFU guidelines.
All coaches and assistants will have a job description.
Female and male coaches/assistants will be present during coaching and matches.
A qualified coach of at least Level 1 MINI/MIDI RFU standard will always be present during coaching/matches.
The Club will encourage and help coaches and their assistants stay up-to-date with rugby, coaching and child protection issues.
All coaches will be given a copy of the Club’s Code of Conduct for Coaches and adhere to it at all times.
We will keep written records of attendance, parental consent and accidents.
We will provide coaches, assistants and helpers with a written procedure for dealing with accusations or suspicions of child abuse.
-2 -
As a club we will promote “fair play” and always play within the spirit of the laws and the letter of the continuum.
We will identify a person whose role it is to deal with any concerns about physical, sexual or emotional abuse within the club.
All coaches/assistants will:-
•Avoid overplaying players.
•Ensure development comes first - winning second.
•When coaching contact skills ensure safety first.
•Never allow injured players to train or play.
•Ensure all equipment and facilities are safe and appropriate.
•Never coach law violations.
•Never overtly criticise players.
All parents will be expected to:-
•Be familiar with this policy.
•Make sure the Club has a contact number.
•Share any relevant expertise with the Club.
•Share any concerns with the Club.
•Inform coaches of any injuries originating from outside of the Club.
•Provide their child with the necessary safety equipment and kit.
