Ripon Rufc

The Ripon coaches were very nervous in the warm up as this was the first full contact matches for the U9s,but the players showed no nerves and ripped into a shocked Selby team.With solid tackles and good driving plays the 7-0 score line was well deserved.
At 0-2 down at half time in the second match against a York team,Ripon were on the ropes,but a great fight back saw them draw 2-2 with the final play of the game.
The final match of the pool stages saw Ripon blow away a big Wenslydale team 6-0 to finsh top of their pool.
Ripon meet the second York team in the final,they had top their pool by beating teams from Harrogate,Thirsk,Selby and Richmond without conceding a try.This turned out to be a thrilling match with both teams playing some exciting running rugby.Ripon took an early lead but York came back with some powerfull runs,the Ripon squad showed full commitment making two or three tackles on York players just short of the Ripon try line.A second try gave Ripon some breathing space,combined with rock solid defence the York players then began to tire and this gave Ripon the chance to seal the win with another fine try and so run out winners 3-0!
This was a great start for the 9s and many thanks to York for a great day.
